Chicago artist Woes released the official video for “HIDE” on Friday afternoon, alongside the release of his first major project, PRESSING MY LUCK, via Pass The Butter. On “HIDE,” Woes pokes fun at other mainstream rappers while maintaining his usual monotone flow over an up-tempo dance beat – a juxtaposition from his gritty, left-of-center visuals.
The self-edited video offers the same subversive imagery as his other previously released visuals from PRESSING MY LUCK. The visual opens to Woes getting pressed against the pavement, dog-piled by law enforcement, and a child playing a claw machine game filled with weapons.
PRESSING MY LUCK is available everywhere now; watch the “HIDE” video above.
Released Friday, Woes’ 11-track body of work, PRESSING MY LUCK, blends Woes’ gritty aesthetic with his sense of humor, including tongue-in-cheek interludes and skits incorporating audio bits from police scanners to “Jeopardy!” The album shows Woes’ versatile and eclectic style, with “Swimming In Circles” integrating a jazz-style piano backtrack and “Dancing Questions” using more of Woes’ vocality to juxtapose his gritty rap style. The album embodies Woes’ philosophy of learning from wrong decisions and even making the wrong move intentionally to dive into the unknown head first.
With the release of captivating visuals accompanying his junior release, Woes continues to cement himself as an artist to watch.
