DC The Don returns with a profoundly introspective masterpiece, a conversation the budding star has with himself that questions the true meaning of success. In “FLY ENOUGH TO BE VIRGIL,” he opens up about his rise to fame and the challenges that come with it – out now via Rostrum Records.
The enigmatic rapper returns with his third single in the last three months, building on the momentum of his hotly anticipated REBIRTH album. Due October 18th, the LP marks a daring evolution in DC’s artistry. His latest entry keeps the fire alive as he ventures into uncharted territory, pushing the boundaries of the Milwaukee rapper’s sonic expression while stepping up the tempo.
When speaking on the single DC explains “This music is my therapy. Every bar is me working through life in real-time. I’ve gotta stay real with the fans, the music, and myself. When I ask, ‘Am I fly enough to be Virgil?’ I’m really asking if I can leave that same mark, pushing boundaries and making waves in the culture like he did. It’s bigger than just clothes – it’s about building a legacy.”
The video immerses viewers in DC’s world, but it’s all made to be open to interpretation. A liberating bassline underpins the track, while his vocal acrobatics convey a compelling intensity, culminating in a relatable and honest narrative. It continues the saga of someone who embraces vulnerability, transitioning from the lovestruck admission shot of “Lucy” (his co-star and love interest) to the hidden costs of pursuing fame.
Furthermore, the “FLY ENOUGH TO BE VIRGIL” visual features a look that is iconically Bowie as DC dons his own lightning bolt painted on his face, in homage to the famed musician.
On the fast track towards a major mainstream breakthrough, DC struggles with the conflicting emotions of success and the weight of superstardom, using music as a medium to soundtrack his everyday life experiences. As he continues to strive towards a place of new beginnings, all set to play out over the course of what he considers to be his first album, the former XXL Freshman is ready to embrace his next era.

Artist Biography:
DC The Don creates without borders. The Milwaukee-born, LA-based rapper is one of the most creatively daring artists in hip-hop today. His genre-blurring discography presents a spectrum of ever-changing sounds, anchored by DC’s precise and direct delivery. For him, being different is a strength. This has been the driving force behind his music, evidenced by the former XXL Freshman’s do-it-all dynamic. From rage rap, to punk and pop, DC’s swift rise is a testament to his wildly experimental and massively appealing ingenuity. Since delivering his first song “Everything 1K” in 2017, he has ascended from budding next-gen rapper to a burgeoning powerhouse. Following an abrupt halt in his recording career, after DC was unable to resolve a contract dispute, he was hindered from releasing music on streaming platforms for almost two years. Turning adversity into art, he launched his playlist, DC FRIDAYS, and started developing a community and fanbase online. In 2020, DC signed to Rostrum Records, and released his debut album, Come As You Are. He followed that up with 2022’s My Own Worst Enemy, which introduced the masses to DC’s two personas: Donny and Rag3 Kidd. After the loss of his close collaborator and friend, Sad Frosty, DC returned with renewed vigor and a new mindset. And his 2023 album, FUNERAL, personified this meaningful change succinctly. 2024’s SACRED HEART 2 (+) not only catalyzed a massive year for DC, but it also cleared the runway for the June-released EP 2012 – a three-song set that’s striking upon first listen and even better on repeat visits. With more new music on the horizon, DC The Don is squarely positioned to continue breaking boundaries and cement his status as a rising superstar.
